Modern Music Scores Mono's New Sesame Street Segment "Word on the Street""

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 7, 2007 -- This Fall Sesame Street Workshop debuts a new segment, "Word on the Street" co-created with Minneapolis-based advertising agency, Mono.

Sesame Street's newest kid on the block, a friendly muppet named Murray, who kicks off each new show by asking a bunch of kids what that day's "word on the street" means to them. After Murray interviews them, kid-on-the-street-style, he asks the kids watching at home to look out for that word during the upcoming show.

"Scoring music for these Sesame Street segments gives me the chance to dig in and use 'non-standard' instruments we just don't normally use every day -- like Xylophones and Marimbas, Pots and Pans, whatever's laying around." comments composer Rick Meyer who recently has released two children's albums. "Kids really love percussion - and so we punctuated the high-energy by using these instruments."

When asked how scoring segments for Sesame Street differs than writing music for commercials, Meyer responds, "Music for kids should sound friendly, but never 'condescending' - We keep it fresh and get to play around with fun musical instruments - Kid's are smart. We like to play to that!"

There were 26 episodes in all that debuted this season.
